My mother visited USA last year. First-time she got only 4 months validity stamp on her I-94 then we extended her I-94 for another 6 months showing a reason. Finally she got approved after a RFE. Passport has 10 years visa.

Again we are calling her this year after a 16 months gap/stay in India. One of my friend was saying that first visit extension may create problems for next visit. Is this right? she is 59 years old! how could she manage if they create any problems at POE. She is travelling alone this time. Any documents you suggest to keep with her in case. This time she is intend to stay for 6 months only. Do you think senator letter may be safe to keep side.

Senior guys could you suggest please.

I am a silent visitor to this forum friends like dsatish, ar888, cinta, pingpong, edison_nj may give some ideas..

1. Its good that your Mom had a 16-month stay in India before returning to the US.

2. That she stayed here in the US for 1 year the last time she visited will have no negative bearing on this upcoming trip. Please however make double sure that she is carrying all of the extension-approval related documents since they may ask for it.

3. My Mom has visited us about 4 times in the last 4 years and 3 out of the 4 times we have applied for an extension and have always received an approval without any RFE's. So each of those 3 times that she entered, she was given an I-94 of 3,6,6 months respectively and we applied and received 6-month extension approval. In the first case, we in fact applied for 2 extensions, one for 6 months and the other for 3 months and had no problem getting it.

4. On her fourth entry into the US, she was asked to show all of her extension documents which she did and everything went well.

Hope that helps

if you donot mind can you pl tell us citizenship your mother holds?

I have extended question. What questions generally immi officers asks at POE for visitors on their second+ visits?

My Mom is an Indian and to answer your second question:

Questions typically asked at POE are:
1. How long would you like to stay?
The answer to this question should be 6 months or less, never say more

2. When you were here the last time, how long did you stay
The answer should always be the truth here, never hide the fact that you stayed longer than 6 months (if you did) since they can pull it up on their system easily

3. Can you show us proof of your previous extension-approvals?

4. Where do your kids work and who has been sponsoring your trips?

5. Can you tell me why you are not staying in India between your trips long enough?
Here they just want to make sure that you no intent of abandoning your country of origin and immigrating here on a visitor visa. Its always a good idea to have your parents stay in India for at least 6 months between trips to the US

Hope that helps
