Dear friends,

Can anyone tell me what are the chances INS won\'t allow a new Canadian PR to come to USA for visit?

I am a landed immigrant for 6 months, and my wife just received canadian landed papers one week ago, now she wants to visit USA for one weeek, will there be any problem for her crossing border into USA?

How to avoid such problem?

thanks for your input

If your wife is a citizen of a Commonwealth country (like India) then she will not need a visitor visa to visit US for upto a six month stay.

I have been to US several times after landing as a PR in Canada and never had any problem (both by road and air).

At the Vancouver airport (and maybe at other Canadian airports too), they do the US customs and immigration check before departing at the airport itself. After which your flight is simply like a domestic US flight with no more clearence required.

I hope this helps.

Dea birdy,

Thanks for your valuable response.
But, I would like to know if she can visit USA right one week after landing, or she has to wait certain period before she can visit USA?

How long did you wait in Canada after landing before you visited USA?

Thanks

I am a indian passport holder and having Canadian PR, i visited USA few days after i landed in canada. The only question US officer asks is Resident of which country? Citizen of which country? How long you are going to stay in States? Where are you employed in Canada?(my husband is employed while i said i am a house wife).
And we were allowed to enter States.

Hi Indu Verma,

Thanks for your reply. Can you tell me what border you crossed through, and if you crossed through train/bus/air?

thanks

I had landed in Vancouver,Canada with my wife and son on Oct 2nd, 2000.

On Oct 7th (5 days later) I had to go to Boston for a week (company related work) and decided to take them along as well. Our flight was from Seattle, so we drove across the border in our car.

The US immigration person asked standard questions about duration and purpose of visit etc. He took a bit more interest in our case, since we still had old I-94 forms attached to our passport and the car still had California licence plates, but in the end there was no fuss.

So dont worry about your wife. She will not have any problem (unless she is carrying contraband stuff :) )
