Visiting on Visitor Visa at expiry of H1's 6 years

I understand that after being on H1 for 6 years, one needs to leave the country and then after a year, another 6 years on H1 starts again.

During the interim year, is one allowed to keep visiting the US on visitor visa --- or is it the case that one cannot be physically present in the US at all for that year?

Visting US within 1 year of expiry of 6 years on H1

My 6 years on H1 expires at the end of August of 2005.
Can I come back to the US for 3-4 weeks on a Visitors visa towards the end of this year ? Or is it mandatory to stay outside of the US after the 6th year expiry of H1 ?

Thanks,
Sid

visiting US after 6 years on H1

I was told that if you visit for sometime, then you just need to come back to the US after the 1 year plus the duration of visit. So, if your 6 yrs ends Aug 2005, and you visit for 2 months in Dec-Jan, then I think you can come back on a new 6yr H1 from Oct 2006.

I wonder that if the time that one has spent outside the US over the past 6 years, can be considered towards the '1 year'. So, if you had been on vacations outside US, cumulatively for 10 months over the past 6 years on your H1 --- does that mean that you now have to be outside for only the remaining 2 months before you get a new 6yr H1?
