Why do they ask to come before six months:
To apply for citizenship after completing 5 years should not be staying continuously for more then six months out side US. That is the reason for six month limit.
If you stay more than a year you need re-entry permit to enter US.

I received my I-485 approval on the 3rd of Aug. Am going for my Stamping on the 23rd of Aug to California.
Can any one let me know how long does it take for the"Physical Green Card" to come ??? I need to start the 'Follow to join process-(2 get wife 2 the US)' ASAP and the Chennai Consulate has asked for the front and back copies of the GC.
Kindly help.

There is no definite answer. Some people who stamped at SJC have received their cards in about a month, others have been waiting much longer. On the same day, three different people here stamped in SFO (I was one of them). I was told two months, the others were told five and ten months. When I asked my attorney this week, she said about three months was average. So pick a number...
To start FTJ you do not need card. You can show your stamping GC and I-485 approval notice. There was case on this forum that someone did not receive the card for year.son24 said:HI,
