Can anyone provide some info on their visit to COP recently either directly or through third country. What was their experience in all ?

Going through a third or directly means you dont need asylum. Please check again the definition of gaining asylum in USA.

Not seeking advise

there were some old threads related to this.........just wanted to make sure if they had smooth journey back and forth.
Thanks

IF YOU THINK OF GOING TO COP THEN YOUR ASYLUM STATUS IS IN TROUBLE:(

Lawful permanent residents who obtained such status based on their asylum status may also travel abroad with refugee travel documents.

Possible Consequences of Returning to the Country of Claimed Persecution
Section 208.8(b) of Title 8 of the Code of Federal Regulations provides that an asylum applicant who leaves the United States pursuant to advance parole and returns to the country of claimed persecution shall be presumed to have abandoned his or her asylum application, unless the applicant is able to establish compelling reasons for the return. Therefore, if an asylum applicant returns to his or her country of claimed persecution pursuant to advance parole, he or she should be prepared to explain the reason for the return.
Asylum status may be terminated for specific reasons as listed in INA § 208(c)(2). An individual’s underlying asylum status may be terminated even if the individual has already become a lawful permanent resident.

Rexcanam,

To tell you the truth, this issue is not as black and white as the previous posts might indicate. Many people who got their GC through asylum return every day from their former COP. I have people close to me who have gone 3 or 4 times to COP while holding a GC. They have all been naturalized even though they clearly disclosed these trips to USCIS.

USCIS will not waste time investigating anything unless you repeatedly return to COP or if you remain there for extended periods of time. Remember that once you get a green card, you are no longer an asylee. Your travel pattern will have to be suspicious enough, to raise a red flag.

Finally, many asylum applications are legitimate even though the beneficiaries travel to their COP. Being an asylee does not mean your head will get chopped off as soon as you get off the plane. It is often much more subtle than this. My case was rock solid with abundant evidence. I could return home if I had to, but I would need to not get involved in politics and resign from my political Party: I am not willing to do that.

But to conclude, I would recommend you not to go unless you really have to (death, illness, emergency, etc..). If you do decide to go, it's not the end of the world. I would make sure you document the reasons for your trip and keep it in a safe place.

People who traveling to COP for vacation didn't deserve Status they have.
I hope people will get caught and deported.

Once you'll get GC you're Permanent Resident based on Asylum it's on your Green Card. And you subjected to the Section 208.8(b) of Title 8 of the CFR

I also forgot to add that USCIS will permit for an Asylee (not a GC holder) to go directly to COP for a limited amount of time provided there are strong and compelling and documented reasons that justifies the trip.
I do not fall for the "you need to get deported" BS, sorry. I can't stand people showing off on here to prove I don't know what. I know what persecution is, and I've experienced it in my own flesh. Thank you.

I am 10000% agree to what you said Dave_bj.
I am former asylee and I went to interview to get my GC, and I did ask the IO that interviewed me that you are no longer an asylee, you are now Immigrant status, that allow to in and out to travel around the world with your NP and GC!!

We are here in this forum to HELP people that need ADVICE not to SCARE them or even ACT you are on the SAFE side and showing OFF...
GC holder that wants to travel to their COP is their own decision.. and I believe 1000% people that got naturalize went to their COP as soon as they got US passport.

Thank you Crusher4me for bringing some sense back to this conversation. We are here to help each other out. People take pleasure in doing this kind of thing. I am no lawyer, but I have seen people travel back home (after GC) over and over again without hiding this from immigration/ICE officers. And 2 of them got naturalized in 2009 without a hitch.
Who are we to judge the merit of someone else's asylum case anyway???

Not necessarily! For me travel back to the COP means certain and extremely painful death. So, I'm not even contemplating a possility of going there for any reason, ever. Still, after more than a decade... :(

Be4,
I respect your particular situation. But you also have those who had issues with specific political regimes. There will come a time when these regimes will no longer exist and will be replaced by others, hopefully more democratic. This may also allow some former asylees to return home. This does not mean that their asylum application was fraudulent or that they should be deported, as others suggested.

Hi guys. This is my first message here. I need your advice. I'm colombian, and I want to go on vacation to my country. I have Asylee status, but I don't have my GC yet; however, I have my Refugee Travel Document. Do you think, guys, that I should visit my country using this document????

I'd like to read EVERYTHING you think about it.

Thank you.

Sure, go head.
Some people here so-called asylees just like you, will explain to you how to do that.
Then they will explain to you that's OK because everybody doing that, Im mean a lot of people doing it, violating the Law. A lot of people also selling drugs and other illegal stuff, So don't worry, be like everybody else.

Rexacam,

The bottom line is that if it was really illegal, ICE would enforce it. And like I said earlier, the reason for your trip, the length of your stay and/or the number of trips you make is the key thing here.
I would avoid returning unless really necessary so that you never have to provide an explanation about the asylum status you used to have but no longer do.

Colombiano11 ,
This is not about going on vacation trips. This is not what I am advocating here. If you are looking to travel to COP for a vacation then your asylum status is clearly questionable by USCIS.

Dave bj and Uncle Joe

Thank you for answering. The thing is that there are a lot of people that constantly argue that I’m able to travel anywhere (including the COP) whenever I want. They say than even in the case that I have GC (AS6, AS7), I can travel to my country 5, 6 or 7 times if I like to. Is it true that, even having my GC in my pocket, the risk of being deported when I’m entering to the US exists?? What do you think?? because “Colombian PR” says that I can do it whenever and whatever I want.
