My H1 visa on passport expires in Nov 2003. My H1 is extended upto 2006.

a) If I visit India in oct , do I need to take appointment for visa stamping (Mumbai consulate) or drop box is available?

b) If I do not stamp visa, I can enter on my existing visa prior to expiry date. In that case what will be my new I-94 date?

Thanks

Hi,
Here is the answer to your questions...

My H1 visa on passport expires in Nov 2003. My H1 is extended upto 2006.

a) If I visit India in oct , do I need to take appointment for visa stamping (Mumbai consulate) or drop box is available?

---------- Since your passport already has a visa of the same category that you are applying for, you don't have to take an appointment, only fresh visa applicants need to take an appointment. You are eligible for drop box.

b) If I do not stamp visa, I can enter on my existing visa prior to expiry date. In that case what will be my new I-94 date?

---------- Yes, you can enter on your existing visa prior to expiry date. At the Port Of Entry (POE) show your passport along with the new I-797 approval notice which is valid till 2006. At the POE, in your I-94 they will specify valid till 2006. I did the same thing recently (Sep 1st week), mine expires in Oct 2003, I have an approval notice till Nov 2005. Showed my I-797 approval notice to the POE officer along with my passport, in the I-94 he entered the date that was specified in the approval notice.

Hope this info. helps.

Thanks,
Vasan

POE question

Hi Vasan,

I have a similar question.
I have a visa valid till 2004, Feb first week. I want to go to India next week and come back in Nov 2 week.
Do you guys see any problems I could face at the port of entry because I will have only 3 month (approx) left in the Visa.

By the way My employer will apply the H1 extention next week, but I wouldn't be able to receive approval before I return back.

any help in this is appreciated.

thanks
kanch

Vasan/msps/dj30305,

Do either of you know how early can one apply for re-validation? In other words, my current H1-B is valid till Jan 31st 2004. I will be in Mumbai on the 15th of Nov 2003. Given this, can I apply in Nov via drop-box?

The VFS website doesn't say anything about discontinuation of the drop-box service. Although, I've heard quite a few people on this forum talking about the discontinuation of that service.

Do you guys know if anybody recently (after Aug 1) succesfully got the re-validation done?

I'll appreciate your response.

Thanks.
