I got my Visa stamped succesfully from Mumbai at Apr-25. This site helped me a lot when I had questions and wanted to share my experience and hope that it helps.
I had my appointment at 8.15 am in the morning. Reached there at 7.15 and there was a long queue. Although my friends said that I don't have to stand in the queue, I did and around 7.50 a person from the embassy asked people having the 8.15 apptment to move forward. Be sure that you don't carry any cell-phones. I had my friend accompanying me and gave it to him before I went inside. After going inside, they did the usual security checks and collected the passport and I-797 and asked for the finger prints. Make sure that you have your fingers safe and clean. I saw the embassy official asking a couple of people to take the interviews but to come for the finger-printing later as the machine couldn't read their finger-prints.
After submitting the papers, I waited with the token in hand.
Around 8.45 I had my token called and was behind 6 people in the queue.
The first 3 people got their Visa's really quick in a matter of 5 mins. I could make it out from their expressions.
The next 2 persons in the line were a couple and had their Visa's rejected and handed back their passports. So I was little nervous when I went in.
This is the actual conversation I had:
EA(Embassy Officer)
Me: Good Morning, Sir.
EA: Good Morning.
EA: Have you been to the US before.
Me: Yes, Sir.
EA: Are you still working with XX(my old company).
Me: No Sir.
EA: How did you get your job with the new company?
Me: I worked as a consultant and then they offered me a position.
EA: Ok.
EA: Do you have an engg in Computers and where did you get it from?
Me: Sir, I did my B.E from Mumbai Univ.
EA: Thanks, your Visa has been approved and will be returned by courier in a couple of days.
Me: Thank you, Sir and have a great day.
EA: You 2.
I was surprised that he didn't even ask me for my documents which I had been arranging and re-arranging since I got the appointment.
After that I went out and roamed around in the hot Mumbai sun till 5 pm waiting to go to VFS to collect my passport.
I reached there at 4.30 and there was a big line there of people waiting to collect their passport.
I would advise if you are there idling your time, it's better to reach VFS and stand there in the queue earlier.
Finally went inside and got my passport at around 5.45 pm. Saw some families who got one of their passports but the other hadn't reached VFS. Felt sorry for them as some of them were from outside Mumbai and had their flights booked for this weekend.
This is my experience and was so relieved that everything went off well.
It's normal to be nervous before the interview. Just be calm and have all the documents that they can possible ask for which will give you that extra bit of confidence.
All the best for your stamping.
