Visa Renewal was applied before expiration of my previous I-94. Am I safe now?

Hi All,

I came to US on a L1-B and my visa was valid till March-31-2007. I got my I-94 also valid till the same date. As my employer wanted me to stay here for few more months my company applied for a new L1 visa in US through a legal firm and the case was filed on 22nd March.

I haven't got any receipt of the filing of the case or haven't received any legal document's/proofs to extend my stay yet. When I checked with my company they said as my case has filed I am on status and it's not a problem.

Now my concern is, I don't know whether the way I stay here until I get my new Visa/I94 granted, is legal or not.

- If I get my new Visa granted (from some date in April) can it still be a problem when I leave the country and can it affect to the good standing of my passport.

- In case if INS rejects renewing my Visa in US, then by the time I get that decision I would have stayed in here for more than a month after expiration of my previous I-94. Then can they stamp my passport as an illegal stay in US. If so I want to leave here without waiting for my employer to get back with a decision as if such thing happen then it will personally affect to my passport and I don't want that to happen.

Appreciate any advise/clarification.

Thanks in advance.
