visa renewal.... status ..

Hi,

I applied for visa renewal and got the receipt number.
But my visa is expiring in this month and still didnt received any information about 797 approval.

1> will my status become illegal after visa expiry? (if i am having the receipt number for i 797)

Please guide,

If you have got the receipt number for the renewal petition, then you are ok and can continue to work for 240 days after the expiry of your I-94.
