I am a J1 holder. I am subjected to Section 212(E) two years home residence requirement. I have a job offer, but the only possibility that I have to get my work permit in a relative short time is to apply to an O1 visa.
I am not sure if I qualify or not:
1. I got my Ph.D. in Materials Science in 2005 and currently I am working as Research associate at Florida Atlantic University.
2. I have 10 publications in referred journal,
3. I wrote 1 book chapter,
4. I have 15 presentation in international conferences,
5. I got 3 scholarships awards,
6. I am member of the board of directors of the most important society in my field,
7. I can get at least 10 recommendation letters.
Questions:
1. How are my chances to get an O1 visa, with this background?
2. How much time will take the process?
3. If I am a J1 and I am the U.S. shall I go out from the country to get the O1 visa, or can I change my status being here?
4. What you recommend me?
