When does a visa number get allotted to I-485 applicant?
In my case I have recently replied to the RE. Is there any chance that my I-485 application will be on hold because of no visa number availabily?

Visa numbers are the Immigration Quota (for countries) and are released by Dept. of State. Its the last stage of the Immigration process, where approved cases are alloted these numbers.

Please provide more details so others can also join in. It is my understanding that country of origin and the EB category have a major say whether you will have to wait or not...

guys you know what "case on hold for visa number means"? I spoke to IIO yesterday and was told my case is on hold for visa number. My details are
PD 02/05/1998,
RD 08/17/1999,
ND 09/09/1999,
FP 09/23/2000,
waiting.....& waiting

Pradeep I believe for your case the Visa numbers will be available starting May 1, since the PD had moved beyond yours this month.
