Hi,

Does someone know whether a spouse of an US citizen must wait for a visa number nowadays when you are already in the USA? In the past you did not have to wait for a visa number available to you if you are married to an US citizen.

When I read information on the USCIS website, I could not find the line "except spouses, parents ..."

Thanks

The spouse of USC does not have to wait for a visa number. All you have to do is file I-130 & 485 to adjust status.

From the USCIS website:

"The immediate relatives of U.S. citizens, which includes parents, spouses and unmarried children under the age of 21, do not have to wait for an immigrant visa number to become available once the visa petition filed for them is approved by USCIS."

On this page:

As the other poster says, you can file I-130 and I-485 concurrently, so you don't even have to wait for I-130 to be approved.
