If you are current and already got your interview date, then you need to contact the american consulate and ask for a change in your interview date stating your reasons. The problem is if they give you another date which is far in the fiscal year, you may have a risk of not getting your visa as there might be exhaustion in the available visas. However, if you think that making your interview now will definitely have an adverse outcome on your application, it actually might be better to ask for a date change and do it at another time.
