Visa expiry date vs. duration of stay

My in-laws got a 9-month B-2 multiple entry (July 05 - March 06). They are returning after a 5-month stay. If they choose to come back in Feb 06, will they be allowed to stay for 6 months again, or will they have to return before the visa expiry date?

they may get a six month stay, the visa stamp expiry date has nothing to do with the stay period,

visa stamp is the window for entry.

I-94 stamp tells you till when u can stay.

But i would say that their coming back so soon will mean that when they go for stamp renewal in future they will have trouble.

best to wait to get a new stamp, which can be a 10 yr stamp and then come.

Hes right. Go back home, wait a while, and then get a fresh visa. The backup evidence of the fact that they visited and came back wil be an added benefit.
