Visa Expired more than year....

I have H1 visa, already expired in Feb 2006.
I have valid H1 notice (I94) with my current employer valid till March 2008.

I was thinking of going to Canada for stamping.
Somebody told me that if visa is expired for more than a year, I need to go back to my home country (India) for stamping.

Is this correct?

For your purpose (i.e. H1 stamping), what you have heard is incorrect.
