Hello,

I was on H4 status from 2007 to Sept 2008 and started working on my H1 from last Oct(2008). Due to a family medical emergency situation I came to India in Sept this year. Since I am now on my H1, I have attended the visa interview in Hyderabad(India) consulate in 3rd week of Sept.. and I have been told that my visa is approved and I will receive my passport in a week's time. However, I am waiting to receive my passport from last three weeks. So when I called hyd consulate, they told me that they "need to do further administrative review and embassy will take the next steps after the review is completed".

I am not sure what it means completely, they didn't give me any pink/blue slip nor a case #... consular said it is approved on my face in the interview but now it seems to be a different situation there.

Could someone please help me and throw some clarity or direction on the situation. Or if any of you have faced the same situation, please let me know what I should do next?

Thank you very much!!

administrative review

approval from washington of an h1b and visa stamp in an embassy are two different things. administrative clearnace is a process which could mean that they have sent ur visa to usa to be confirmed or approved AGAIN. this process can take weeks to months. depends on ur demographics.

i would hope for the best and not get obsessed with why the consulate told you that it was approved. not giving you a piece of paper is also very variable some embassy give it some dont.

you can ask them if it is a 221g case. usually they give you a paper for that.

good luck . hope things go on the fast track
