Has any one updated petition details in vfs site after booking an appointment? I have weird situation, my 6th year H1B visa is expiring in mid May 2006 & my company has applied for 7th year extension late Dec 2005(6 months before expiration). Now I have to book an appointment in Chennai consulate by end of May 2006 for my fiancée & me. Can I use the existing I797 petition details and book an appointment.

Will the consulate reject my appointment because I797 petition is not valid on the day on my appointment? Any help is really appreciated.

My word of advice is to go for premium processing and go to canada for stamping if you are out of time. It took 4 months for my 7th year extension to get approved from Vermont center( w/o any RFE)

i have a similar situtaion. You can actually book your appt with your receipt # of your petition (if you have it already). Otherwise use your current valid petition and book the appt. After teh appt is fixed, you can come back and update the petition details with latest information. As long as you have the correct details before the date of appt, you should be good.

Just wanted to make sure, did you talk to anybody or email Chennai consulate regarding this issue. I saw the following text in VFS Site

"You must hold a valid petition (Form I-797) issued by the
U.S. Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security,
before you proceed to make an application."

I just got my receipt number 2 days back. Do they consider I797 receipt number as valid, instead of an approval notice.

That,s fine. As long as you have the valid petition in your hand durign interview hand and it matches with what ever you entered in your appt, you should be good. Note you can always change/update the peition details even after your appt is confirmed.
