Good morning. I am a student from Bangalore. Currently, I am working in Chennai. I have completed my master’s degree and I had applied to a few universities in the US for my PhD studies in PHARMACOLOGY for FALL 2005 semester. I have received an admission offer for PhD (PHARMACOLOGY) program from a university in the US. It was at this time that I came across the TECHNOLOGY ALERT LIST OF PROGRAMS given by the U.S. Department of State. That is when I realised that PHARMACOLOGY is one of the programs in the TECHNOLOGY ALERT LIST. I searched the internet for information relating to this. I have a few queries regarding my situation. It would be very helpful if you could help me clear my queries.
1. I am aware that certain programs (like Robotics) also feature in the TAL list. BUT ARE ALL THE PROGRAMS RELATING TO CHEMICAL AND BIOTECHNOLOGICAL FIELDS CONSIDERED TO BE IN THE TAL LIST?
2. I visited the following webpages to learn about the documents I need to carry for my visa interview. (a) http://usembassy.state.gov/chennai/wwwhnivrdphoto.html (b) http://usembassy.state.gov/chennai/wwwhnivfvisa.html
SINCE THE PhD (PHARMACOLOGY) PROGRAM I AM SEEKING ENTRANCE TO, IS IN THE TAL LIST, WOULD I HAVE TO TAKE ANY ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS (for example, Curriculum vitae etc.)?
3. IF SO, WHAT ARE THE ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS I SHOULD TAKE? PLEASE GUIDE.
4. I have heard from my seniors and other students that the visa interview (for programs NOT in the TAL list) is a SINGLE personal interview for a maximum of 15 minutes.
COULD YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY ADDITIONAL / DIFFERENT PROCEDURES DURING THE VISA INTERVIEWS FOR A STUDENT SEEKING ENTRANCE INTO PROGRAMS IN THE TECHNOLOGY ALERT LIST? Or is it the same SINGLE 15-MINUTE INTERVIEW as for programs NOT in the TAL LIST?
5. If there are any different / additional procedures, could you please let me know about them so that it would be useful and I could anticipate it during my visa interview?
6. I heard that students seeking visa for entrance into the TAL–listed programs, are asked to answer a questionnaire and attend a SECOND interview with a SPECIAL CONSULATE OFFICER. Could you please let me know if this actually happens or is it just a rumour?
It would be very helpful if you could answer these questions and clear my queries. I would be very grateful to you. PLEASE GUIDE.
