I (actually my friend) got laid off and he is in H-1. How long does he have before he has to find another job and file another H-1? Please answer. I asked a few guys and got different answers.

I heard there are no clear guidelines from INS for H1B validity after layoffs. Some say "10 days". But, Thats what the attorneys interpret.

There is no clear guidelines from INS.But INS say 10 period is OK.
But ask him to search for somecompany who can do H1B, even if he needs to spend money fromhis pocket.
He can search for jobs after that.

If the company revokes the H1 or informs INS then he has 10 days to find a job. However, most companies do not inform INS. Hence, theortically he has a lot of time
