I am a new poster, but have been reading this forum for the past month. I just mailed the I-130 & I-485 for my parents this morning

I have a very quick question, I see in a lot of discussion where people said that they receive e-mail notification from uscis for status updates. I don't remember any of the forms asking me to enter an e-mail address. Could someone tell me if I missed something, or do I have to log on to uscis and create an account? I just want to make sure I am on top of things....

thanks a bunch...

You need to create an account on www.uscis.gov. But, to do that you would need your application/receipt number. So, wait until you get the receipt notice, and then you can create an account on-line.
Good luck!

Hi Ling,

you have to sign up by creating an online ID and then use your receipts number to track the cases.

I think this tool was meant for immigration attorneys who supposedly follow many different cases.

Anytime your status changes, you receive a written communication in the mail.

Thank you so much for super fast reply... i will wait for the receipt #.. kind of exciting.. hope everything will go smoothly.. i am so glad i found this forum..

in case anyone is interested in comparing notes (even though i don't have much to share with right now)..
