If you are in H1 status and have/will get an H1 visa you can travel based on your H1. Your pending green card petition will have no impact on your ability to travel as long as you are in valid H or L status.
Remember that you will find it near impossible to obtain any other non-immigrant visa because you have a pending green card application.

Your H1 is valid until you use EAD. To switch from H1 to EAD you fill out a new I-9 employment eligibility verification form with your current/new employer. If you decide to seek another part time job using EAD, you have to re-file I-9 with your current employer as well since using EAD with one employer requires you to use it with all employers.
Once you use EAD you are no longer in H1 status and will therefore need AP to travel.
