Does anyone have recent experience applying for a spouse at the Vermont Service Center? I am a US citizen and applied 3 weeks ago. I just received the first NOA (I-797). There seems to be a 3 month backlog according to the USCIS web site. What are the next steps, I would like to be prepared in advance. Thanks!!

Let us know about more info so others can help
For example
Is your spouse in the U.S?
Did she enter legally?
What was the NOA for...( presuming it was for I-130)?
Did you apply for I-485( which seems to be the next thing you should be doing from the limited info you gave)?
If its a marriage based then you were supposed to apply at the Chicago lock box...(but you mentioned VSC)
any ways...answer those and hopefully you'll get responses that will help you
thank you

The spouse is in India. She has never travelled to the USA before. The NOA received on June 6th was the very first NOA from Vermont, indicating they have received the I-130 petition. The letter said it is taking 150-999 days to process this type of case, that just seems high for a visa category that is current. This means it could possibly take one year before my wife is able to join me in the USA.

It usually won't take that long as mentioned in the letter since the visa category is current. I am assuming it will be approved in less than four months. Once the I-130 petition is approved they will notify you by mail. You can proceed from thereon.
