Verifying some one's Green Card

One of my relative(in India) got engaged to a person here in USA. Eight months ago, when I spoke to him, he says that he is applying for a H1 visa and will get by June 2004. And now he is claiming that he got his green card and when I asked him how did he got this, he is not giving me a proper answer. The father of bride is asking me to investigate. I am totally confused because I think the only fastest way to get green card is through marriage and I think he is deceiving us, but he claims that he got through EMPLOYMENT. One other catch is, his GC is valid only for three years, I never heard any person who got GC through Employment has so less validity. Is there any way to verify how he got his green card, either from MARRIAGE or EMPLOYMENT, if we have his A# or a copy of his GC.

From the copy of his "GC" you can find out how he got it. There is a 3 letter code like E21 that tells you the category under which the GC was granted. If you can send me a PM with that code I can tell you the category.
 
This guy doesnt sound right, if he cannot give you the proper info, he is obviously trying to hide something. Not reliable obviously !!!

He might be applying for H1B visa extension/renewal. It may be possible while his H1B visa application pending he might have got his green card approval. It appears that he might have got his green card through employment. Another possibility he meant his extension of H1b valid for only three years. The best way to get the information ask for a copy of his green card. If he possess, he should be able to give you a copy, after all it is for the marriage (supposed to be life long bond). Marriage to green card holder takes several years to get another green card for spouse.
