OCI Application through USPS Mail
Here is what I did and worked out well (cheaper compared to Fedex, UPS and still timely delivery)

Once account was created, requested following supply:
Once supply was delivered and I was ready with all paperwork, I went to USPS website and created Flat rate labels (with tracking option) for both to Travisa and Return from Travisa. Yes, USPS asks for planned return ship date as well but they allow the shipment even after 2-3 months as long as that label is not canceled or used.

Once set, I followed below steps:
  • Put return label in ‘Customs Form Envelope 2976E’
  • Stick it to ‘Flat Rate Padded Envelope’
  • Fold the padded envelope and put it aside
  • Put another label in ‘Customs Form Envelope 2976E’
  • Stick it to ‘Flat Rate Padded Envelope’
  • Put application and folded return envelope in it and mail it.
  • It took 2 days to deliver and I was able to track delivery confirmation on their website as well as through email notification.
  • Once I got confirmation that OCI has arrived at consulate, prepared one more label to send passport for oci sticker stamping.
  • Put label in ‘Customs Form Envelope 2976E’
  • Stick it to ‘Flat Rate Small Envelope’
  • Send it and track it.

Once Sticker is placed on your passport, they will use the return envelope sent with original application and mail it to you. If you have already set up email tracking for return label, you will get email notification as soon as USPS starts tracking it.

I know this is not a biggy for most of us however Travisa Fedex/UPS instructions are equally confusing and People don't know that USPS is also an option, they avoid or don't explore it that was the primary reason I decided to post this (To me, it was cheaper yet reliable and less confusing alternate and yes, I don't work for USPS so no wasted interest here!).

Please leave a feedback here so one of the volunteers could decide whether to make it sticky or not. Good Luck to all!!!
