I am a naturalized US citizen (born in India) and in the process of applying GC for parents. One of the requirements to file GC is ti submit a birth certificate (to establish parents-child relationship).

I don't have my Indian birth certificate and wanted to ask experts in this forum whether I can OCI card (which has the names of my parents) instead of birth certificate.

Thanks

No, you may not use OCI, it will be rejected.

You will need either your birth certiicate OR an official letter from the registrar of births (usually a village or city muncipality) stating that such a record of birth does not exist PLUS two affidavits from close relatives who are aware of your birth and can vouch for the parent-child relationship. If both parents are beneficiaries, you will also need a marriage certificate for your parents (2 affidavits in lieu of marriage certificates are acceptable)

In addition to these documents listed above, you might also want to supplement it with documents issued in the distant past like your first Indian passport, your school records, any voter ID, driver license, ration card, bank accounts, school records, etc. They should have the names of your parents on it.
