Using Drop Box for F1

I am writing for inquiry regarding applying for F1 visa through drop box facility. I was in USA since June-2000 till Nov-2001 on H1B visa. Can I use the drop box facility to apply for F1 visa in Mumbai (India) Consulate? Or do I need to apply personally and appear for the interview?

If I can use the drop box facility, then please let me know what are the documents or procedures.

Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance.

F1 visa through Drop Box

Hi all,

I got my F1 Visa successfully through the Drop box Facility at Mumbai (Bombay) Consulate. It took just 3 days for the reply. No additional documents (like cover letter etc.) are required.

i applied for conversion from b2 to f1 - about 80 days after landing in usa. does any1 know the likely success rate ? people advised me to do this instead of going back to india and applying for f1 from there.
