Use of EAD without I 140 approved

Hi

I have completed 6 years, I got EAD 2 months back. My I 140 is not approved and ND is Aug 2003. My question is that Can I work on EAD without the help of my current employer if so, what are the possible implications. Please let me know, any help on this highly appreciated.

Yes you can use your EAD card to work but the concern is that your I140 hasn't been approved and if you start working on EAD then you are giving up on ur H-1b. You can file for 7th year H-1b extension based on pending 140. If you apply for extension then you will be safe even if there are complications with your i-140 case. Also the H-1b extension doesn't come of the H-1b cap so you will be fine in filing the extension.
