Use AP while being checked?

My wife got a security check when she went to apply for an H-1 visa in China but she has AP with her.
Could she just uses the AP to enter US without any problem?
Any input is appreciated.

One of my friend entered with AP at SFO while being checked by consulate. He was so worried about being scrutinized at POE before he came back. But it turned out OK.
