Use AP to enter, the officer will write "AOS" or "Paroled..." on I-94?

A seal is stamped on (PP, New I-94, AP document) that reads:

-----------------------------
PAROLED until Month dd yyyy
-----------------------------
Puprpose
TO RESUME APPLICATION
FOR ADJUSTMENT OF
STATUS
----------------------------
POE DATE OFFICER
----------------------------

How is "until Month dd yyyy" determined if your AOS is pending for ever? What happens if I-485 is still not approved after the date?

I assume that would be based on the parole expiry date.

In my case, the "paroled until" date was one year from the date of entry at the POE, irrespective of the parole expiry date.
I returned to the US in Dec 05. Although the AP was expiring in April 06, the officer stamped a "paroled until" of Dec 06.
What has me confused is whether or not I can re-use that AP until Dec 06?

If the 485 is not approved until then, I guess we just need to keep renewing the AP (...and keep filling US treasury coffers!!)

What was your POE? What would you do if you get ot reach this expiration date? Would you still be legal?

AP is simply the travel document. You are legal in the country as long as you have a pending 485. The EAD authorises you to work while waiting for the 485 approval. Neither the AP nor the EAD have anything to do with your legality in the US as long as you are within its borders.
If you were to leave the US , then you would need the AP to re-enter the country.

I entered the US on Sept 26th 2005 on an AP. They gave me the same stamp and Paroled until Sept 25th 2006. My AP is expiring in June 2006. My lawyer said that she would be filling for a renewal although the Parole duntil stamp says sept 2006.

I am travelling next month again and would be travelling on the existing AP.

Parole expiry v/s I-94 expiry

coming back to atmaramji's query about parole expiry v/s I-94 expiry, I asked the immigration officer exactly what was the difference. he said that your valid status is till i-94 expiry but parole you can use only till parole expiry date. However, it was confusing since if I have an 485 AOS pending, does my legal status expire ?
