USCIS sandwich Between DOL and DOS and we are the Jelly

Here is what I feel is happening

DOL - Has created a Backlog Creation Plan and the PERM process. Their targets are to clear LC as fast as possible. They can tell the Govt they are meeting their targets.

The above is creating a load on USCIS

USCIS - USICS is getting old LC cases that is why the dates are moving back so much. USICS tells the Govt they are acheiving their Tragets of 6 months processing time , whereever there are Visa's available. USCIS has created its own bcklog reduction plan with no clue about the DOL backlog reduction plan

DOS - Gets the demand from USCIS , They are fulfilling their targets by using up all their target numbers perscribed by the Govt. And finally DOS has no clue about the DOL and USCIS backlog reduction plan

In effect for the Govt DOS, DOL and USICS are doing very well.

This is not an issue of one agency ..what is needed is a complete immigration reform which would change policies for DOL, DOS and USCIS

In effect , USCIS is sandwiched between DOL and DOS and we (the sweet Jelly) is dripping down. When the Govt realizes the importance of the Jelly and sweetness to US , they will act......after all AMERICA is the land of immigrants

Well, the only difference today as opposed to say even 10 years back is that most immigrants have equally good alternatives back home. With the dramatic increase in living standards in China and India for tech workers, if the US is not able to attract quality immigrants the US will be the loser. US graduates 62000 Engineers a year, India around 255,000 and China around 600,000. It is anybody's guess in 10 years where we are headed. The graduate programs in the US are mostly run with foreign students. With such bleak scenarios for immigrant visas many young people will go back. The US immigration is now more weighted towards family re-union rather than skilled employment and that is really a tragedy for the US in the long term. We have millions of illegals walking across the border and then you have the skilled workers who will have to wait years on filing EADs, APs, address changes and so on for a green card.
The message is clear we are heading for dumbing down of the US. We say 'NO' to skilled tech workers and a nod and a wink to some one walking accross the borders for fruit picking or washing dishes. Well with the current account deficit of over $60 billion a month we wont have cash to pay our illegals if we can't create wealth in the US.

Well said ...

aris,

You have hit the hammer on the nail. There is a huge disconnect between the various agencies (USCIS, DOS and DOL). Good work by one agency leads to chaos in another. Unless policies are made with all the agencies in mind these problems will never end. Someone is always going to end up with the short end of the stick.

In_durham,

I totally agree with what you have said. Over the past 5 years it has become increasingly evident that the US is on its way to a slow and steady decline. Jobs are moving out, the economy isn't really taking of, immigration of unskilled labor is on the rise and skilled workers are being driven out. At the same time, India and China are making huge inroads towards becoming developed countries. Throughout history there have been great nations that have peaked at some point and then slowly declined. This is what is happening to the US. I think the US peaked in the 90s and the decline has now started. I am almost convinced that by the time most of us retire, things will be much worse than they are right now. Maybe I will regret the fact that I chose to settle here in the first place. Who knows ... :)

regards,

saras
