How can we explain the large number of I-485 filings in Jan2006 inspite of heavy retrogression:
Major volumes in January 2006 receipts include: 100,051 I-765 employment authorizations; 69,468 I-90 Green Card renewals/replacements; 62,033 I-130 relative/ I-129F fiancé(e) petitions; and 45,319 I-485 permanent resident adjustments.

· Major volumes of pending applications at the end of January 2006 include: 1,168,966 I-130 relative/I-129F fiancé(e) petitions; 813,270 I-485 permanent resident adjustments; 248,688 I-765 employment authorizations; 217,704 I-90 green card renewals/replacements; and 45,310 I-821 temporary protected status.

Lot of EB1 and EB2 filings ..

retrogression is only for 1-3 countries for EB1/2.
/o

you are right. There are tons EB2s eligible for filing 485. EB3s are struggling across the board. EB1s and EB2s from certain countries are struggling but most others are fine. The stats make sense to me.

saras

I think another reason for more EB2 is that most of the EB3 waiting for LC are now using EB2 for PERM and hence all this....
just my 2 cents.

Also I want to know from gurus if there is any difference in quota for EB2 NIW or others through LC.

P.S : I am new so if I am wrong let me know

EB2 - NIW-TCS
I-140/I-485 - RD - Sep 29 2005 I140 AD- Oct 2005 :D
FP - Dec 28 2005 NO LUD change till now
EAD for Spouse & Self - Oct 2005
AP - Oct 2005 ( used early this year for a trip to India)

the only difference i know of between eb2-niw and eb2-lc is: in niw there is no LC required its a direct I-140....hence it used to be concurrent.....and the approval of I-140 is ultra fast(30-60 days)....

apart from that they are in the same queue when it comes to I-485

actually, from what i gather here the NIW i140 approvals are actually slower than LC. It is not uncommon to see a 6 month wait for NIW i140.

January I-485 Filings

Keep in mind: there were 45,139 I-485 filings in January. However, the vast majority of these are family based. They get 480,000 visas per year, which translates into 40,000 per month. Using that assumption, there were possibly only 5,139 EB adjustments filed. That's a far cry from the 11,666 monthly average (i.e. 140,000 per year divided by 12).

NIW- I-140 approval can be time consuming if the proof is not obvious..........a friend of mine got it in 3 weeks....since he is working on genetics....in medical field with tons of publications and citations..

Actually while i hear everyone here on this board in doom and gloom, I think the important thing from this graph is just how many I485's they are approving. In 2 years the outstanding number has gone from over 5 million to 3 million. THAT'S INCREDIBLE. They've reduced the outstanding backlog by 1 Million each year!!! And that's with on average 400k to 600k new applications each month!

Why so glum, this is fantastic, I don't think they've ever worked this fast. :D

What numbers are you talking about?

Your posting shows how USCIS manages the numbers very skillfully by combining all applications together in the report. The actual number of pending I-485 applications as of Jan2006 is 8,13,270 and we do not know the breakup for EB cases and family based cases.
The bottomline is "There has been no rhyme or reason behind the approvals from USCIS. Later applicants have got approved and now USCIS is holding us to ransom by artificial retrogression"
