Here is what the dilemma is:
Most people that work at the USCIS customer service can discern between FBI fingerprint and FBI name check. Both of this while, considered to be one process all fall under two different subcategory.
Most fingerprint are done withing 24 to 48 hours.
Name check on the other hand, is done after the FBI fingerprint check and this is where the problem begins, in particular if they have to manually check the records after they get a positive of false hit.
It is also important to know that while the name check is being done the FBI does subject the name to different database
for example:
1- most men of Latin or Hispanic descent are put to a gang related database check to see if that individual as been the subject of a gang related crime investigation and so on.
2 - I would assume the same is done for Middle Eastern descent men for terrorism and in the case of Europeans, a database related to communism and war related crimes....etc
So keep in mind that while your fingerprint may have been send back to USCIS the name check is the one still pending
