USCIS administrative error

hi, my name is alex and i being a resident of the U.S since 04 but a few months back i notice that the name in my green card was wrong, someone tell me that i need fill out a i-90, application to replace my green crad so i went online to check and it said that i don't to pay for this.

But my sister tell me that is been more than 1 year so i have to pay now...
so i want to know what should do? should i send the payment with i-90 or what? also i would like to know what are the step to follow in this case, like what i need to send and all that....also motor vehicle refuse to give me a linces beacuse of this.....can anyone help me?

Yes, you'll almost surely have to pay. At this late stage, they will strongly resist giving you a replacement card for free, because you accepted the card and used it for so long before attempting to correct it.

You can e-file the I-90, which will give you an instant receipt which you can print. Make an Infopass appointment at an immigration office, take the receipt and the card and another official ID showing the correct spelling of your name, and ask them to give you an I-551 stamp in your passport. That stamp can then be used as proof of permanent residence for DMV, employment, travel, etc. until the new card arrives. Of course, remind them that the I-551 stamp needs to have the correct spelling of your name.
