USC passport for AOS interview

A question for those who have already gone through the process:

Is the US citizen's passport an absolute necessity to take along and show to the interviewing officer during the AOS interview as evidence of citizenship?

Would the US citizen's birth certificate suffice and for ID, the driver's licence be appropriate?

I have my interview next month and my USC spouse has misplaced his US passport and I am worried if we really need the passport for the interview. We have his US birth certificate, social security card and driver's licence with us.

Appreciate your time and feedback.

I am USC sponsoring my husband for AOS. I don't have and have never had a passport. Our lawyer told me that all I need to prove my US citizenship is my birth certificate. I will also have my SS card and DL with me for identification purposes. I know you wanted an answer from someone who has already been through the process, but thought this might help. :)

My husband doesn't have a passport and we just had his birth certificate, SS card and drivers licence. That is sufficient.
some ridiculous number of the US population doesn't have a passport...something like 90% but I think that is changing because you now need one to get into Canada or Mexico.

The IO took my husband's drivers license as his ID. He only needed to see my passport. He didn't ask for any other forms of ID (not even his birth certificate or SSN - probably because we had enclosd copies of everything in the application - including the passport bio page for my husband).

At the interview however, th IO didn't want to see anything other than his driver's license. I think a birth certificate more than suffices - I don't believe a passport is mandatory to show US citizenship.

No...
All they will need to see is his DL or state issued ID.

They cross check the address on the drivers license for both the husband/wife. If the address is different it raises a red flag.

Just an opinion PR. Don't jump all over me.

There are many couples who have been approved while living in different states or parts of this country. They do not cross-check addresses on your driver's licence, that's why you are required to truthfully fill up and submit G-325A forms as part of the AOS application. Please don't confuse or cause anxiety if you are not sure.

Well I can only speak from my experience. If that causes anxiety or confusion then that I can't help. Who is sure about anything with these people our this process. We can only do our little chit-chat and speak of our experiences. Your response is some what weird considering that you have not gone through the process.

I did not have the same address on my DL as my husband. We live in the same state/same house, but I just didn't do a change of address on my license. I didn't even think it would have been a big deal--- WRONG!!!! I had to go through a series of questions in relating to the difference in address. I had no other answer than I just didn't change it over. What was the end result-the officer stated that he would have to investigate the matter. I guess he had to investigte if I had truthfully filled out the G-325A- didn't lie- didn't have anything to worry about.

A red flag simply means that more details will be required. More questions, more answers and of course an extension of the process. It doesn't mean denial and certainly I didn't mean to imply that (although I don't think I did).

LOL- and I was worried about PR- LOL

they need to see the DL just to check whether you are the same person who has turned up for the interview and not a hired actor / actress to get the GC
