I am a Canadian citizen (a legal PR holder), currently living in the USA with my US husband. We have decided we would like to move back to Canada to be with my family. We were hoping to move all our furnishings across the border with us and file for his residency up there. Can anyone tell me if this is possible? If so, will he need a visa to travel into Canada with intent to move up there?

My husband is an American citizen. We've been married 7 years now, and we've decided to move to my home land, Canada. He wants to become a resident of Canada.

You need to sponsor him for immigration .

1) you can move to canada and file for his immigration from seattle/buffalo and he can keep moving up and down

2) you can file an Inland sponsorship but in that case he will not be able to leave canada for the life of the sponsorship process ( 6 months - 1 year )

I would personally suggest the first

Thanks for the info bhand, that almost sounds too easy though. Are you telling me theres no paper work I would need to do till we get there? And if so, wouldn't the immigration officers at the border frown on this, I mean, we would like to move all of our furnishings with a uhaul.

Immigration officer might deny entry if he/she thinks that he is moving up there permanently. As an American citizen he can visit Canada without a visa as long as he intends to be there temporarily. At the boarder try not to tell the officer that your husband is moving there permanently.

I agree with Clear sky or moreover Do not go at the same tiem to canada . You can go first and then he could visit you and then you could decide what to do later
