Hello All,
I am US resident thinking about applying for Canadian residency. After waiting for 5 years for my US GC I finally got it almost exactly a year ago. Which was well and good but now I am getting married back in India later this year. Waiting for my fiance\'s immigration directly to the US is completely out of the question, since family 2A or my citizenship will take years. I am thinking about applying for Canadian redidency from Seattle area for me and my future wife. To speed up the process we can have our Nikaah performed earlier than the actual wedding cermony so I can get the process started ASAP. My plan is for us to land in Vancouver, then in a couple of days head back to Seattle. And eventually have my wife apply for students visa for the US and stay here on that status and give up the canadian PR. This is the only I can think of to get her here soon. I have few questions:
- Has someone done something like this before?
- Is there any problem you forsee with this idea?
- Do canadian residents get a GC like US residents? Does it identify the primary applicant (Spouse)? i.e. Will her card identfy me as her husband?
- What are the latest processing times from Seattle consulate?
- Do both husband and wife always get called for an interview? If yes, can it be easily waived ?
I know this is a lot of questions but I would really appreciate if you can answer a few of these.
BTW, I am computer software consultant with a Bachelors in mathematics, about 10 years experience (almost 7 of these in US).
thanks much,
Aamir
