US Kids...

I remember seeing a thread with info on kids born in the US, like getting birth certificates, passports etc. Does anyone remember where it was?

Well, moderators are human too. :)

Questions:
1) How long does it take to get the passport, any ways to expedite it?
2) Any way to expedite getting the birth certificate for the newborns?

How to get passport in hurry

1.Here is the link to get passport by expedited service.

http://travel.state.gov/passport/get_first_quickly.html

The normal time is about 6 weeks but you can get in 2 weeks by expedited service by paying extra $60. But in my son's case I applied thru normal processing, I received the passport in 10 days.

2. If you got to department of vital records personally you can get it on same day.

regarding birthcertificate go to town hall (in the town where baby was born) and they should give you the certificate. You can get 2nd original for extra $5 or so

Hi Joyd,

BTW: Did u become father in recent days? if so, Congrats buddy!

we should share some other good news here as well apart from the GC saga!

anyways good luck!

Well the good news is that if you are married make sure you have you child born in America. This way you don't have to sponsor them once you get your green card.

A child born in the US is a US citizen by birth and they get a US passport right away (well there is some backlog for passports but it is usually a few days) :p
