US Citizenship for Green Card Holder with Canadian Criminal Record

Great forum everyone!!!!

I currently have a Green Card/Permanent Resident Card and have been living in the US for about 8 years and wants to apply for my Citizenship. Problem is that I was convicted for a fraud case back in 2004 (after I received my green card).

Am I still eligible for US Citizenship considering that I do not have a record in the US and am a current resident? Will they perform a background check with Canadian authorities that may affect my application?

I have an appontment with an immigration lawyer but wanted to run this by you.

Any help/recommendations on this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Canada and the US share a ton of information; many Americans have been denied entry to Canada because of a DUI that happened in the US. I wouldn't be surprised if the FBI background check turned up your case.

In addition, you are supposed to disclose all your arrests and convictions on the N-400, regardless of where they occurred. If you don't mention a criminal incident and they find out, it's definite denial, plus possible deportation.
