Dear All,

I have been searching Internet very thouroughly lately, but could not find an answer to my question yet. I hope one of you can help me with the following:

Both my parents have a green card aundefinedundefinednd will become US citizens soon. My questions is whether I (as a child of my parents) can get the US citizenship (or dual citizenship) as soon as I move to the US or do I have to wait at least 5 years, just as my mom and dad had to?

Hope one of you can help me.

Thank you in advance.

Yours sincerely,
Wendy

I do not know what undefined green card means (also the caps) but if you were born in 1979 than you have to wait 5 years for a citizenship after you become (if you are not already) permanent resident.

I understand that you dont understand the undefined in caps. I think i did something wrong when posting my mail. But thank you for your reply.
Do you think that I also have to wait for 5 years to get dual citizenship after I become a perminent resident?

Yours sincerely,
Wendy

Hi Wendy,

I think I answered your question already. If you were born after or in 1979 as your nick suggested, that is if you are older than 21 than you have to wait for 5 years. If when your parents become citizens you are younger than 21 than you do not have to wait 5 years.

You need to clarify your question with more background information. Are you living in the US as a permanent resident? What's your age? Dual citizenship depends on your country of current citizenship/birth. Please check out the USCIS website's "How do I" section. They some standard Q & A's on this subject too.
