Hi,

I don't know under which forum group i should ask below questions.
Before applying for citizenship, i wanted to understand the following:

  • What is the timeline for getting parents green card (sponsored by US Citizen child) ? In other words, how many months/years it takes for obtaining parents green card from the time application is received by USCIS ?
  • What are the health insurance options for old age parents who have never worked in the US before and come here on child sponsored green card?

Thanks

1) 6-12 months.
2) Somewhere between enormously expensive and impossible. Some more options may become available when Obamacare takes effect in 2014, but the future of Obamacare is very uncertain with all the political battles over it.

To find something affordable, look for a policy that provides only emergency coverage and short-term hospitalization, and plan to have them go back to their country if more treatment is necessary.

I am in a similar situation would like to know options for parents who I plan to sponsor their GC after I become USC.

What about those who have pre-existing condition like cancer and require regular chemotherapy for maintenance of life. Maybe private doctors are the only option for them, without insurance or charitable institutions run by some foreign charities.
