US Certificate of Good Conduct

Dear everyone,

I'm currently collecting all the documents I need to take to the interview (i'll hopefully be invited to :-)). Since I have been living in several countries before I need several certifcates of good conduct. I have in the US as an intern as well (J1-Visa). Now I'm wondering whether I need a US certifcate of good conduct. Until now I was pretty sure that applicants will be checked for previous charges in the US anyways, but just to make sure that I'm not missing any document I'd like to know whether anyone has further information on this issue!

Thank you very much in advance!

Greetings

Unfortunately it is not stated anywhere explicitly! I guess I understand what you're trying to tell me by asking me this question! It's better to be safe than sorry right?!

main thing you need to be worried is whether a need for J1 waiver is applicable to you and if so, do you have it?

USCIS will do your US background chks using multiple methods (FBI name/bk grnd chk is only one of it) So you do not need worry about that yourself.

J1 waiver? Are you talking about the home country requirement that applies to former J1-visa holder? That does not apply to me fortunately, since I did not receive any finacial support...

@Dfdo Thanks for the info on US background checks! I got a mail from the consulate stating the same. So...no need to bother about a US police certificate!

Even if you did not get financial support but you had a J visa, still I think the restriction applies.....chk that.

Even if you didn't get financial support, you should have evidence showing that the restriction was not applicable in your case (any letter from country or organization that sponsored your J1)

I thought about doing that as well...but now I remembered that the home country requirement lasts for only 2 years anyways. My J1 expired in January 07! So ..I should not have any problems with that!!!

my advise is DO NOT ASSUME anything, dig deep and get the facts right. Were you a resident in your 'home' country for 2 yrs after leaving US ?
