No, that is considered as a domestic travel.

Hawaii-OK Purto Rico-don't know

yes...hawaii should be straighforward ....... considered domestic (is domestic !!)

although when a few months back I asked my lawyer about whether i could travel to Puerto Rico while on I485....they did not know !! Puerto Rico is considered part of the US but I think the people there do not have voting rights !!! Cannot put these two facts together (part of US but no voting rights) Dropped the plan altogether ........

I will advice you to carry passport and visa documents in this post 9/11 era. My company's attorney has always asked us to keep all the immigration papers while travelling domestic after 9/11.

If not, carry at least the copies of all the papers you have.

Mugdha.

Last year I went to Puerto Rico. At the airport after you go thru security there is an immigration officer and asks everyone flying to the us if they are a US Citizen or not, if not you need to show valid travel docuements.

I am assuming Hawaii is similar to that. Doesnt hurt to carry all the docs.

No,.The lady looked thru my passport and made sure I was not illegal. didnt stamp or anything.

If you just visit Puerto Rico and return to the US you just need to show status.

On an another occasion I have flown thru Puerto rico from the the carribean, I had to go thru regular immigration like any other city, I have an AP so had to go thru secondary inspection.

I went to Hawaii this March for spring break and it is just straight domestic travel. Bring your driver license and maybe your attorney's phone number in case for some extreme situation.

My buddy who is on 245(I), holidays in hawaii every few months and he never had any problem.

Do you need your passport and visa to travel from Texas to New York? Ofcourse not, Hawaii is one of the 50 states, and so is Alaska. Please use common sense people. I can understand why some people would have reservations about this after 9/11, and I also think this way, but comeon! We need to stop living with fear, what is the whole point of comming to USA if we still have to live in fear and not have our basic human rights!

I am sorry, I think I am just fustrated by myself.

Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands boath are not a state in the 50 states of the union territory, so they may have special requirements.

PS: If you are travelling to Alaska, but u need to change ships or get a ship from Canada, then u will need valid travel documents to come back.
