Trying to apply for 485 this june.Can someone please tell me whether we have to wait for Receipt notice to arrive in mail before we leave the country or can we just mail the application and leave the country?

if you are on H/L, you don't need to wait anything. You should tell your lawyer in case you have fingerprint notice

I would suggest that you talk to your lawyer about the intended travel and the 485 filing in June.

If your application received date will be when you are out of the country - you are out of luck and I-485 could be denied later on that basis. sorry if I misunderstood you. I had assumed:
1. You send your I-485 by next day air, and you can track the package
2. You have USCIS online account so you can see the updates before you get the I-485 receipt notice
3. Your travel plan is at least several days after the package is delivered in case anything wrong, e.g. the check should be $395, and they will reject your package if the amount is $396 or $394...
