11/01/2005: Senate Judiciary Bill at the Brink of Collapse Unless Everybody Contracts Senators and Congressmen!!!

The full Senate failed to take a roll call for this bill today. Believe it or not, Senator Byrd intends to offer an amendment tomorrow (11/2/05) to remove the H-1B and immigrant visa retrogression provisions passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee from the Budget Reconciliation Package.
Please call your Senators and urge a "NO vote on the Bird Amendment Immediately!!"

CALL THE CAPITOL SWITCHBOARD: 202-224-3121 OR GET DIRECT LINES BY CLICKING HERE: http://capwiz.com/aila2/home/

Everyone should call tonight. I mean EVERYONE. Call your friends and relatives and ask them to participate in this urgent campaign and call their Senators tonight. Call or send e-mails to your immigrant friends and alert them IMMEDIATELY! Ask them to call or send e-mails to everyone they know and ask them to call the Senators tonight. TIME IS OF ESSENCE.
This reporter will check whether our visitors did their share of work by looking at the our homepage "counter" tomorrow morning.

uvg,
this is too late to call senators.

we all GC pending got totally fucked by US GC rules, changes, processing times etc............................

I have to agree - its really up to them

If they DO NOT WANT to stay on the top of the world  , they will kick h1 and retrogression relief out of the bill, they will continue to make immigrants feel even more unwelcome and unappreciated...

a great MAJORITY of us will relocate to more pro-immigration countries who RECOGNIZE talent and great resources we bring with us :)

- so why not let someone else take advantage of our diverse international & US schooling and experience... :)

why not let other countries become leaders in genetic engineering and other fields... :D

True but lets try anyway ...

felix31,

I agree with mostly everything you have stated but for our own peace of mind we should go ahead and do whatever little we can.

The anti-immigration movement in the country is at an all time high. I just read at immigration-law.com that the lawyer who maintains that site has been getting hate mail from anti-immigration sites. I have always believed that there is a lot of racism in the US but a lid is kept on it in public. The primary reason is fear of lawsuits. The truth is that most Americans do not want us here. I guess this is their country and they have the right to think this way. The only problem I have is that the US tries to portray the image that it welcomes everyone. I am against this double standard. If you do not want immigrants then come out and say it. Do not hide racist and anti-immigrant policies in red tape. As racist as it sounded, I appreciated the steps UK took after the attacks. They clearly stated that certain people who do certain things will not be welcome. I appreciate honesty even if its hard to swallow.

The joke is on them though. Instead of focusing on improving their public school system and putting more emphasis on training US citizens for high tech jobs, they are forcing bright people out of this country. It is a flawed policy that will backfire within the next 10 years.

Anyway, we have to deal with what we have and try to make the most of it.

Saras76,

Just like everyone else on this forum, I also hope to get green card one day. However - it may also stay in the realm of dreams if it will take additional 5-7 yrs to file I-485 step alone. Not to mention the fact that the job has to exist at the time of GC approval.
And our spouses cannot work for God knows how many more yrs ...my wife may as well get her second Masters or even PhD.

General American public does not have a clue about legal immigration hardships. In their mind it is rather the same as illegal immigration. To tell the truth, I can see how mainstream media is against immigration in general (not just illegal). However, common people, US citizens whose grandparents immigrated from Europe or Asia and o ther places still remember how difficult that is and they do welcome us.

So, from time to time we have our bright days when we hope and hope, then dark days prevail and we cannot feel other than unwanted (although still needed).

Also, if they truly want to educate US citizens for High tech jobs (and other fields), they cannot finish the job overnight. Also, certain % of population do not want to get college and masters degrees. How on Earth do you get people to go to school unless they truly want to?

Just look at the % of international students in undergrad and graduate programs.
Also, having lived for 6 years in so many ways we kind of adopted this country. the major problem is that the country did not decide to do the same.. :p :p
cheers everyone

What I feel is that anti immigration is loaded with false information.

There are about 50,000 green card lottery every year. These people coming are with all kinds of background. Easily another 40,000 dependents follow them. WHo is going to take americans job? An average person or a highly skilled labor???

By allowing more immigrant visas going to take american jobs?? The visa's in the proposed bill are lost one due to processing delays. And the people who are gettin benefited are people who are waiting for last 5-6 years and already working in the US.

There was a study from social sec dept shows that legal immigrants contribute billions of dollars.

Everybody is converniently forget the contributions of immigrant community.

This world is a very unfair place. what to do?
I try to do what I can and hope for the best.

thanks

Well, all complains are very touching. But remember, US is pure capitalism. Capitalism means market and money drive everything. You applied GC indicates you want to be here. However they don't like you since they don't care whatever you have contributed and only see the job loss of their citizen. It's one side market. They can live without you. What the heck do you think you can make better life for them? If you still want to be here, that's your problem. Got it?

Sorry for such sad post.

My openion is not to put all the blame to the US government, but rather, the countries we are originally from.

We may want to ask ourselves why we wanted to leave our own country and did whatever we could to come over here. Is it really true that our own country is so screwed and so we really don't want to live there? The answer maybe no. China and India are actually moving toward some very positive side, I think one day, we will all be going back and live there without this unreaonable treatment anymore.
