Urgent questions

Hi everyone,

My case number is 2010EU00028***. I would be very thankful if someone can help me with the following questions:

(1) given the case number, would it be too late if I mail the forms to Kentucky Consular Center in early October?

(2) how long does Adjustment of Status take?

(3) in the case of Adjustment of Status, do I have to do anything before my case number becomes current?

Thank you in advance!

John

IMO, case number is irrelevant. If KCC has any deadlines, they should be the same for everybody. Check with KCC to be on the safe side. If possible, try to mail the forms now. Why do you need to wait till October? There is no time sensitive information on those forms, is there?

how long does Adjustment of Status take?
Varies greatly. Search this forum for the others' experience. For some lucky folks it took two months, and some got stuck for almost a year. Both cases are extreme, of course, and normally (if there are no problems on the way) you should get your card in three-four months.

After KCC receives your forms and knows that you are doing AOS, you need to prepare a package which can be pretty heavy depending on your case. It must have I-485 and a few other documents, including your medical exam in a sealed envelope and a receipt of payment to DoS. If you have it all, then relax and wait till the number is current. Or even send everything to Chicage some time before it is current, as other people recommend. It was discussed here in great detail.

According to NL, if we do AOS we dont need to send anything to KCC. Am I wrong?

Most likely you are, unless things changed this year. Read your NL carefully. For DV2009 you had to send at least your DSP-122 and a page (copy) with the bar-code. This form lets KCC know what are you going to do in general.
