Hi All,

I have an important question to post here as it might affect everyone who works here on EAD ...

Recently I applied for FALL 2001 community college courses (evening classes), they responded back indiciating that they need to look at my H1 Document or I-551 stamp. They just don\'t understand EAD even if i try to explain to them.

Alas, no one seems to understand what EAD is all about outside INS / Work place :-( meaning if I go to a community college and want to pursue a course, they ask for legal documents like H1B, I-551, I-9 etc).

Unfortunately my H1B got expired 4 months back and i have a valid EAD until 01/2002) If I provide them the copy of EAD, they just don\'t accept it and don\'t seem to understand that EAD is in lieu of H1B, they say that it\'s not acceptable. The same is true for regular university courses.

I have been waiting for my Green card approval notice and I don\'t know how long it\'s going to take before I get to see the approval notice and then pursue my studies or re-finance my home. Interestingly when i tried to re-finance my new home, I had the same situation.

My question for you is:

Is there any where in I-485 documentation set or other documents where I can prove or give a strong evidence to these people that I am a legal residence and have been authorized to work and/or to do anything legally - join course, re-finance house etc.

I would really appreciate your response in this regard.

Thanks a million ...

Pachai - It\'s simple

Ask your attorney to write SIMPLE letter to you on his letterhead CLEARLY stating your legal status.

"Mr. so and so and his spouse so and so and his kids so and so have received approval for permanent resident of US from INS.
I-140 approval notice number is so and so dated so and so.
Their application for Adjustment of Status is currently in process with INS. Visa number is available for all these applicants since they fall under current priority dates.
Due to long queue at INS for processing AS applications, formal AOS letter is awaited.
Mr So and so and his family have received Employment Authorization Card (EAD) from INS which authorize all the said applicants to
work in USA freely. We are expecting that the passports for applicants would be stamped with permanent resident VISA sometime in the year 2001. They are deemed to be permanent residents of US with the INS provisions in effect as of today. "

I am not a lawyer, consult your lawyer for exact wording.
I obtained and submitted similar certificate to my mortgage company, community college, neighbor, Safe way, Albertson, girl friend, et all.
They all said, yeah we know there is a long queue at INS. ( God knows what they know about H1 and EB category)

BUT IT WORKS FINE
