Folks for traffic speeding ticket, under $500

I have selected "YES" to 15 (Have ever committed crime or offence for which you are not arrested).

Doing last minute check before mailing N400, should i select yes to 16 too ( Have ever been arrested, cited and detained by any law enforcment officer ?)

Please help and chime in with your expereince.

The question has been answered in a forum titled. "Sticky: Poll: Traffic tickets and naturalization (threads merged)" Its among the first threads under US Citizenship forum.

I answered No for 15 but yes to 16 in a similar situation.

Here "arrest" should be understood in its strictest sense so that Question 15 means did you commit any crime and you were
not caught and also should be reserved for very serious crime. You were pull over and given a ticket for your traffic violation
so that you were "arrested" and should answer NO.

It should also be reserved for more serious crime. If you today you drive
15 miles above speed limit and no cop see you and nothing happens, You
don't have to answer Yes and explain to the IO that "I was speeding
and I was not arrested"

Thanks WBH ..I am not sure what i was thinking.. Glad i asked. Got it now...It does make sense now...what about question 16..since state public records shows my driving ticket. I want to report it , then it should be via "yes" in Question 16, right ?

I do not want to re-open "REPORT" vs. "NOT TO REPORT" which is on the traffic thread..i just want want to know where to report it...

Dream,

Also, don't mention to the IO that you smoking weed on a balcony in Mexico, while sipping a virgin daiquiri on a naked lady's backside... Keep those details to the aside. In short, no need to volunteer any information which has no bearing on the application. Lastly, speeding while texting on your cellphne is a crime in most states, but you have done it so many times that it doesn't lead to any arrest or detaining by the officers, spare the IO those details...

If you later run for governor of yoru state (president seem to be out the question), your political enemy can go to dig that kind of dirt. Then
Your political enemy can say you even lied on N400 and should be de-naturalized let alone running for governor

Answer No to 15, Yes to 16, and either come prepared with proof of paying the ticket, or be ready to firmly state that their own rules say that documentation is not required for traffic offenses under $500 where no arrest or alcohol or drugs were involved (print out the page from M-764.pdf which says that).

You have to declare that you had traffic ticket even fine is less or more than $500, but if you declare it on the N-400 by saying Yes and your ticket fine is less than $500, you don't have to enclose the proof of payments or driving records. You can bring them to the interview.

There have been reports some IOs are very mad about applicants disclosing traffic tickets because they think such reporting are wasting their time

my 2 cents

I answered NO to 15, and YES to 16. later on, in the table below Q21, I stated the information of the Citation I got back in 2006. While doing that, I contacted the MI DMV and received an official form indicating the information and the status of my driver license. I did not send it in with my application as it was less than $500, but am planning on getting the official form with me to the interview just in case. It cost me only $7, and is for preventing possible future headaches.
