I got my Canadian PR with just 5 weeks time to land.
I am planning to go to Canada next week from US

Can someone please tell me

1. How long do I need to stay in Canada after landing can I return back next day after giving friend's address for PR Card?

2. Do I need to land in same City/State as I mentioned in my application or can I land anywhere?

3. Will it be ok if I take my US bank statements instead of Bank Draft to show funds since I am planning to move later

Thanks

Please do not show US bank statements. You have to prove them that you are moving there permmanently and terminating all the ties to the USA and you have to act that way too.

You have not mentioned what your status here in the USA. If you have a valid visa to return, yes you can return next day depending on the US INS.

However, officially you are not supposed to travel outside of Canada until you receive your permanent Resident Card.

You lack sufficient info ...wish knew it and could help more...

thx

I do have valid U.S visa. Since I just got 5 weeks after passport stamping to land, its difficult to actually move from U.S and I am planning to comeback and move later.

what else info should I need to get any help????

my understanding from the other folks in the forum is that you need not have all of the funds as cash/traveller's checks/drafts. have some amount say $2,500/$3,000 as bank draft or TC's and the rest can be shown as part of the bank statement or some proof that you have the money and can bring it along when you move permanently. please correct me if i am wrong.

and as far as i know, its okay to tell the canadian folks that you are making an entry now before your visa validity date but you will be moving permanently at a later time. i thought, that's the reason you have 2 separate lists of goods to declare - one at the time of your entry and one for goods to follow/declare at a later date, say when moving permanently. again, please correct me if i am wrong.

i am not sure about the technicallity regarding, not to leave canada before getting your PR card. may be other senior members can throw some light on that matter, thanks.

Yes, you are correct...what I meant to say that u should tell US INS that you are cutting off all ties to USA had u not have a valid visa. However since u do have one, u can tell them your goods to follow and you money will be transfered later on. You not necessarily have to carry any cash, I did not.

Your remaining 5 weeks on visa becomes irrelevant once you have a permanent card. How do you plan to go back if you want to come back next day without a PR card? they will ask that question at the POE...

Thanks for reply loveusa03 and cnatar02

I heard they mail the PR card to address in canada and in that my friend can send me the card thru courier. Am I right ???

they send the PR card through postal mail to a canadian address that you specify while applying for the PR card at port of entry. i am not sure of the mode you get the PR card from your friend?

are there any restrictions on not to send the PR card through courier like sending passports? i know that indian passports cannot be mailed to international destinations. how about sending the pr card form canada to US or to india? please reply with your comments, thanks.

You can use a reliable Courier Service like Fedex for that purpose.

Sending it to US/India should not be issue at all.

Thanks cnatar02 and Vjy.

I never read anything about PR card thought I know about passport.

And what about someone carrying it for you personally, like if I have friends/relative travelling between canada and US, they can get my card ?
