i am on a h1B from a global company. It filed the I-140 as well as the 485.
I-140 was filed in july 2002 but i still have not got any notice of approval.Filed the 485 this jan and so am hoping that the EAD comes within May 2004.
I also volunteered to teach at a non-profit organization for kids with speech problems.They wanted to pay me and so they did for their records - 200$.I even got a w2 form for it from last year.
My questions are:
1. Is it ok to receive payment(200$ overall for 8 months) even though I am on a h1B with a software company?
2. If not, how do i revert...My interest to help as a volunteer steered me...
3. Is it legal to get paid by them if i receive my EAD even though my 1-140 is not approved?
Please help me.I am confused.The other day I heard that one must not do another job on H1B.I have done a volunteering service and it was up to the org to pay me.I have told them time and again not to pay me but they insisted...They wanted me to be a part of their good work.
