Please help!!!

I filed I-485 about 18 month ago, and did fingerprint last month, now, I
just received a letter from INS requesting evidence I am "still engaged
in occupation on which my national interest waiver is based".

My NIW was approved when I was a Ph.D. student in Chicago, and since then,
I have graduated and worked at Harvard Medical as a postdoc for the last 2 years, and still in
basic biomedical research, although in a different area.

Question is: What evidence do I need to show? and How much evidence is
sufficient? letters, publication records, what else? What is the chance to
be rejected at this moment?

God, I have been in this process for almost 4 years and I wish it will be
over soon.

I think you need to post the original words of the letter
so we can see what exactly is requested.

This is the most critical time for your approval.

How to reply really depends on what the INS is asking for. If you
are asked explicitly for "Employment letter" to prove
you are still in national interest waiver area you applied, (I think most people are asked in this way), then a letter from your boss stating what research you are doing now should be enough.

If you are asked generally for evidence, then I think you have a lot of work to do, including all the supporting materials for your Post-doc work, like your grant application, publications, conference posters, invited talk etc. to support your employment letter.

As you mentioned in different area, which may cost you a lot. How different from your original application? Can you find the common points between them? You need to be careful to address clearly the similarity.

Hope this helps.

First, GET A LAWYER. It may cost a bit, but you can\'t afford to take a risk.

Second, the definition of \'in your field\' is VERY BROAD and you can interpret it anyway you choose. So, even if you feel you\'re working in a differnet area, as long as it\'s cost SOME connection, you can create a link between what you had applied on, and what you\'re doing now. So, do that letter, show it to a lawyer, and send it in. Make it relatively technical, and there\'s NO WAY in hell the adjustment officer can understand what you write.
